IUI Support

We recommend weekly acupuncture during the month prior to the month you will be doing your IUI. These treatments are designed to help regulate your cycle and prepare you for your IUI cycle.

Acupuncture done during an IUI cycle can help in many different ways. By improving blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, acupuncture can improve egg quality, quantity when necessary, and improve the endometrial lining. Additionally acupuncture can facilitate ovulation and encourage implantation of the embryo.

Acupuncture can also reduce the side effects from medications and may help alleviate any stress experienced during the cycle.

Acupuncture Treatment Protocol

Acupuncture is generally used three times during an IUI cycle. Treatment is generally given near days 7, 14, and 21.

Day 7 Treatment:  Assists with egg development and egg quality and quantity, when necessary, by improving blood flow to the ovaries and improving medication delivery. Acupuncture during this time can also help to alleviate side effects from the medications.

Day 14 Treatment: Helps to facilitate ovulation, egg fertilization and improves medication delivery. This treatment is generally done as close to the day of the actual IUI as possible.

Day 21 Treatment:  Improves blood flow to the uterus to assist with implantation and improve the overall health and thickness of the endometrial lining. Acupuncture can help with medication delivery if your doctor prescribes medications during the second half of your cycle.

We understand that not everyone’s timing will fit the above protocol exactly and we will develop a specific treatment plan for each patient taking into account health and fertility issues to help give you the best possible cycle. During your first appointment, a protocol will be developed for you and adjusted as needed throughout your cycle.
