Medicated/Injectable Cycle Acupuncture Protocol

During a medicated cycle, acupuncture can be used to assist the ovarian stimulating medications. Points are used to increase blood flow to the ovaries during the first half of the cycle. This increases egg quality and can increase quantity if needed. As the eggs mature, acupuncture can be used to encourage ovulation and increase the effectiveness of ovulation-inducing medications. Acupuncture after ovulation helps to prepare the uterus for implantation and subsequent pregnancy.

Acupuncture Treatment Protocol

We recommend a weekly acupuncture treatment during the month prior to the month you will be using medications or doing injectables. These treatments are designed to regulate your cycle and prepare you for your medicated cycle.

During the cycle that you will be taking your medication, treatment is recommended near days 7, 14 and 21.

Day 7 Treatment:  Assists with egg development, maturation and quality by improving blood flow to the ovaries and improving medication delivery.  Acupuncture during this time can also help to alleviate side effects sometimes experienced due to the medications.

Day 14 Treatment: Helps to facilitate ovulation, egg fertilization and can improve medication delivery if medications are used to induce ovulation.

Day 21 Treatment:  Improves blood flow to the uterus to assist with embryo implantation and improve the overall health and thickness of the endometrial lining. It can also help with medication delivery if your doctor prescribes medications during the second half of your cycle.

We understand that not everyone’s timing will fit the above protocol’s timing exactly and we will develop a specific treatment plan for each patient taking into account health and fertility issues to help give you the best cycle possible. During your first appointment, a protocol will be developed for you and adjusted as needed throughout your cycle.
