Acupuncture is used at specific times during the IVF cycle to increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries leading to higher quality eggs and a thicker uterine lining. It can also increase the number of mature eggs retrieved for a fresh cycle. Acupuncture also has a relaxing effect on the body which has been shown to have a positive effect on fertility.
Acupuncture done in the cycle preceding the IVF cycle can help to balance the hormones in preparation for ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval and embryo transfer.
